Health Care Training
Statistics compiled by the US Administration on Aging estimate that in
Virginia
the population of those 65 and older will be nearly one and a half million people by the year 2020. More than 10% of that number, 172,000 are projected to be 85 or older.
With the aging population the demand for trained nursing aids is going to be great. Many of these aids will perform routine tasks under the supervision of registered nurses or other medical staff. This will include tasks such as serving meals or monitoring basic health functions like blood pressure, temperature, and mobility. These types of positions require intensive, short term training. Care facilities are currently burdened with training these support positions, however as the population grows, the benefits of Goodwill’s Good Works training, to be located on the Goodwill Jobs Campus, will become increasingly important.
Goodwill programs will provide training that supports the most basic health care services, particularly for our aging population. These include:
- Nursing Assistant Certification
- Training for Med Technicians who perform medical services in a senior care environment
- Career advancement training that will support job retention
- Training for in home health care positions
- Training for adult day services for seniors
