Job Development Center

Job development centers are helpful to potential workers and employers because they provide access to workforce, employment, and training services in one centralized location.  The centers can assist workers who have been laid-off, provide employment services to adult and youth, connect potential workers for proper job training programs, and connect a disadvantaged worker to a job. Work readiness skills programs provide training to persons with disadvantaging conditions that might otherwise preclude them from employment.Job Development Center at the Virginia Workforce Career Center that Goodwill operates in Martinsville.

Even persons who are challenged to use a computer or do not understand the value of the internet in the job search can walk into this center and get the guidance needed to become competitive in the work place.

Goodwill’s Job Development Center will provide:

  • Service to dislocated workers
  • GED preparation and administration
  • Testing to match interest with career path
  • Assessment on current job skills
  • Computer/Internet Training
  • Resume and employment services

“The one stop job center is crucial in connecting disadvantaged workers to employers who need labor.  The ‘under one roof’ concept saves time, transportation costs, and child care costs for those people whose job challenges require a variety of services.”
