Retail Training
As retail outlets continue to search for quality workers, the need for proper training is urgent. Goodwill Industries of the Valleys' new store is on the site of the future Goodwill Jobs Campus. The placement of this store allows classroom retail training to be applied in a work environment where students will benefit from more than 100 years of Goodwill experience in retail.
- The Roanoke Region’s retail trade industry is projected to
grow by 2,542 employees from 2004 to 2014. It is the industry with the fourth largest increase in the region.
- Today’s retail employee needs training in information technology, marketing, communications, loss prevention, finance, and merchandise sourcing. The classroom component of the retail and customer skills training will be provided in the Job Campus facilities.
- The customer skills training will incorporate the retail employers’ needs for all employees to effectively solve customers’ problems.
- The Jobs Campus Retail Store is the first retail store with the added function of on-site training for students enrolled in classroom customer skills training.
- Throughout classroom and on the job training the focus will be on increasing job retention incorporating both the employer and employee responsibilities.
